SO WHAT EVEN HAPPENED THIS MONTH?

December was a very interesting month, with a very strange end to the year. Either way, SO LONG 2020. Completing another trip around the sun doesn't immediately change everything, but I am excited for the symbol of new opportunities the new year brings.

We have some updated news about Legendary and Warner Brothers working out a deal for Godzilla vs Kong and Dune.

Coming in January is the first-ever live-action MCU TV series premiering on Disney+ WandaVisioin. I won't be reviewing that on The Basement Binge, but check out Matt Goes to the Movies where I will be guest appearing every week.

Submit a Question: https://forms.gle/ueSWZfry62MmNXAk7

Submit a creative work  for a shout-out: https://forms.gle/KwGpDizqC3k88Pp96

After all that, there was still room to talk about how I want to be able to give back to you listeners. It isn't much, but you will have the chance to win 1 of 3 Movies Anywhere FREE ScreenPasses from me every month.

Warm Bodies stole my cold High School heart way back in 2013. With the help of Teresa Palmer and M83, it has become a film that has never left my memories! So years later I came to revisit and was touched by how much heart this silly Zombie Rom-Com has, and promised my wife I would do a podcast on it!

So I decided it would be a great Christmas episode!!

---

If you would like to learn more about my Christmas message you can email me at harrison@thebasementbinge.com or contact me on social media (listed below) or visit ComeUntoChrist.org

Written and directed by Jonathan Levine and starring Nicholas Hoult and Teresa Palmer, based on a book by the same name comes the heartfelt and silly Zombie romantic comedy - Warm Bodies.

After a highly unusual zombie saves a still-living girl from an attack, the two form a relationship that sets in motion events that might transform the entire lifeless world.

One of the films have looked most forward to this year is Monster Hunter. Knowing nothing of the word of Paul W. S. Anderson, I was a little nervous as reviews of his work only revealed it could be hit or miss. But I think Milla Jovovich is a total boss and as a HUGE fan of the game (logging over 5000+ hours in MH3U alone) I was excited to give it a chance - in good faith. So Saturday morning my brother and I headed to our local Cinemark - and had a great time!

---

So should you go see it? That is up to you to decide!

---

From the video game to the live-action director behind 'Residents Evil' and 'Event Horizon' and based loosly on the Capcom game "Monster Hunter Word" comes - Monster Hunter

When Lt. Artemis and her loyal soldiers are transported to a new world, they engage in a desperate battle for survival against enormous enemies with incredible powers. Feature film based on the video game by Capcom.

SO WHAT EVEN HAPPENED THIS MONTH?

Warner Brothers announced that for the entire year of 2021 they would release their films day-and-date in theaters and on HBO Max at no additional cost to subscribers.

After all that, there was still room to talk about how I want to be able to give back to you listeners. It isn't much, but you will have the chance to win 1 of 3 Movies Anywhere FREE ScreenPasses from me every month.

[#52] Luc Besson has one crazy imagination! But I honestly had no idea! All I knew was this was a space opera that had some mixed reviews and the Blu Ray was on sale for under $5. So sure why not, lets buy it. Then it just sat on my shelf. So about a year later, it is finally time to visit the strange world of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets with my great friend, Matt Goes to the Movies.

This film is wacky and this review would not have been as fun without Matt's help. Subscribe to his show wherever you get your podcasts! https://bit.ly/2W1C56F or find him on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/MattPodcast

From the visionary director behind 'The Fifth Element' and 'Lucy' and based on the French Comic Series "Valerian and Lauraline" comes - Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

A dark force threatens Alpha, a vast metropolis and home to species from a thousand planets. Special operatives Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.

Howl’s Moving Castle

[#51] Studio Ghibli and more specifically Hayao Miyazaki are quickly becoming a personal favorite among movies and animation! Each film they produce is so fun and touching and after Spirited Away I was a life long fan! So moving onto the next in my collection of Blu Rays is "Howl's Moving Castle".

After Spirited Away blew everyone away there were a lot of English actors ready to be a part of the next amazing piece from Miyazaki. Namely Christian Bale. Also packed in this ensemble cast is Emily Mortimer, Jean Simmons, Lauren Bell (who wanted to mary Miyazaki), and Billy Crystal.

Based on the book by Diana Wynne Jones of the same title released in 1986, Howl's Moving Castle is the story of an unconfident young woman who is cursed with an old body by a spiteful witch, her only chance of breaking the spell lies with a self-indulgent yet insecure young wizard and his companions in his legged, walking castle.

Like the author said herself, it is a touching story about how "if you love someone enough all sorts of extraordinary other things happen in your surrounds as well, and you can achieve great things even if the world falls to pieces around you."

"It is meant to be enjoyed. I want everyone to enjoy it and laugh, and rejoice about it because it is a wonderful thing." - Diana Jones

The Second-Ever Basement Binge "Monthly Update". Probably the most tired and scatterbrained I have ever been when sitting down to record. Between being busy with work, the election, and trying to find some inner peace, it feels like time has flown right by and I have no idea what has been happening. So as scatterbrained as I feel. It was good to sit down and talk about things that excite me.

As always thanks for your support. 🙌

SO WHAT EVEN HAPPENED THIS MONTH? AND DO WE HAVE ANYTHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO?

The bad news first. Sadly we lost the great Sean Connery at the age of 90, probably most famous for his role as the first on-screen James Bond. Some other sad news about the loved Jeff Bridges and his new battle against lymphoma. Lastly, for this sad news - Wonder Woman 1984 currently set for a December 25th release date this year might just be moved again.

So onto some more positives (maybe just to distract us). We got the Mandalorian Season 2 on Disney+ and a few new film announcements:

- Soul moving to Disney+ this December

- Raya and the Last Dragon trailer with a March 2021 release date announced

- LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special also coming to Disney+ November 17

- Also to Disney+ Marvel 616 all episodes streaming November 20th

Unrelated to Disney+ we got a super exciting trailer and release date for the new "Monster Hunter" movie with husband & wife team Paul W.S. Anderson and Milla Jovovich. A videogame series I have loved for years I can't wait to finally see this grace the big screen. Hoping the December release date can stick.

Marvel Studios finding some ways to work on upcoming films with Christian Bale and Natalie Portman arriving in Australia to film. The Doctor Strange 2 crew arriving in London. Most excitingly Oscar Issac was cast as Marc Spector for the new Moon Knight series.

TENET is finally getting an at-home release, this year December 15th.

Also sadly discussing some great trailers that got me excited for 2020 before it turned into a dumpster fire for us all.

Spirited Away | EPISODE 50!

EPISODE 50!! WE MADE IT! IT TOOKS A WHILE, FULL OF HIGHS AND LOWS, BUT WE MADE IT! Thank you so much for being here and downloading, helping me make it to 50 episodes! Onto 100!!

A while back I saw my first ever Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki movie: Princess Mononoke. It absolutely blew me away! I was in a trance for days and couldn't wait to experience more. So the next time I was at Best Buy I bought Spirited Away blind. Just because of all the amazing things I had heard about his specific film. I had specifically been saving it for episode 50. It was so glad it was finally here!

I'm not really sure what my expectations were but after the credits finished, I wasn't very impressed. Besides the beautiful animation, I didn't have many positive things to say. Because I was still processing, but as I gave myself time to think, the more I realized the power in this story. Hayao Miyazaki is a master artist and I am very grateful for the impact this film has had on me over the last few days/weeks! Let me tell you all about it!

Episode #49

I recently heard for the first time ever, the phrase - "Lightning in a Bottle" - which I was instantly tantalized by! But if there was ever a perfect idea to express the greatness of the John Krasinksi Horror film A QUIET PLACE, it would be "Lightning in a Bottle". I am a total wimp when it comes to all things horror, but a film this good (and some motivation from my wife) can always get me to eventually press play!

A horror film made on a budget of just $13 million, no less by a first time director, most famous for his role in The Office. HOW DOES THAT FILM EXCELL THIS WELL!? Like the Abbot's themselves, the result of amazingly talented people working together. Let me tell you all about it!

Episode 48

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is my second every Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli film. After having my world rocked by Princess Mononoke, I couldn't wait to experience such artistic animation again. So as we work our way to Episode 50 I thought it was due time to start through the remaining Studio Ghibli films sitting on my shelf.

Welcome to the first-ever Basement Binge "Monthly Update". Basically, just an opportunity for me to talk about all these cool things on my mind without interrupting the topic of the main review episode.

LOOKING BACK at September and all things in my film/movie interests that are worth mentioning. Including the new DUNE trailer and my thoughts about Denis Villeneuve's new adaptation and the delay; DC Fandom trailers (Zach Snyder Justice League, The Batman, Suicide Squad); Jared Leto confirming Tron 3 on his Instagram; Wandavision coming to Disney Plus; and a lot more!

LOOKING FORWARD to October and all the things getting me excited and disappointed. From Mandalorian season 2 coming to Disney Plus; Film Release delays (No Time to Die, WW84, Dune); the Monster Hunter teaser and it's December theater release; the incredible #ALITAARMY getting Alita: Battle Angel back in theaters at Cinemark (you bet I'm going); Jamie Foxx and Spider-Man 3!? and so many other things.

I want to be able to answer your questions next month! Please send them to update@thebasementbinge.com

This is also just a chance for me to get a chance to share my vision and ideas moving forward here at The Basement Binge. Including a hint and some new episodes coming. The changes are exciting, but also difficult to make sure I maneuver most optimally, with your help it gets a lot easier. Only The Brave

Please help the show by taking this quick survey or just copy and paste this link https://forms.gle/Ene65qaBKRyDn2ZS9 Thanks again!

Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy + Oblivion) has been a long time favorite Director of mine, so it was finally to visit his "based on a true story" film about the Granite Mountain Hotshots. On top of being a very moving and emotional film stacked with an amazing cast, it is also further proof of Kosinski's incredible talent!

Only The Brave is a 2017 film Directed by Joseph Kosinski, written by Ken Nolan and Eric Warren Singer. Staring an A-List cast including Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges, Jennifer Connelly, and James Badge Dale.

"Based on the true story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, a group of elite firefighters who risk everything to protect a town from a historic wildfire."
